Aaah! Pitching horseshoes outdoors in the middle of winter... gotta be nuts right? Our shoes are rusty, so are our arms. But some of us just do it because we love the sport and there’s nothing else going on until spring time.
So, on January 16, 2016 the Stuarts Draft club held it’s annual SnowShoe Festival. It had been raining in the days preceding the event... and was predicted to rain the next day. BUT on THIS DAY, it didn’t rain at all!!
We had 45 degrees starting out, and the temps went up a little as the day went on.
Eight brave pitchers faced off on the courts, and at the end of the 8-man round robin, there was a three-way tie for 1st place. John Ham and Chuck Hansen (both Stuarts Draft members) faced off against Dean Fleming from CentrevilleVA. John lost the first game against Dean, which meant he took 3rd place.
Chuck Hansen then took on Dean. It was a really close match, but Chuck hung in for the final two points, taking 1st place for the day! He also took home the annual one-of-a-kind SnowShoe Champion Trophy and the most of the cash.
Had fun all, see you this spring. Pat
