What a Difference a Day Makes!
On Saturday, July 11, 2015 about a dozen hardy horseshoe players gathered in Gillies Creek Park, Richmond, VA to play the VaHPA Red-White-Blue tournament. It was raining and conditions were miserable.
After carefully monitoring the present and predicted weather, the group decided at 10:00 am to reschedule the tournament to July 25, 2015 and hope for better weather.
On Saturday, most of these same people and many more were present for the re-scheduled tournament. The conditions could not have been better. No rain, reasonably cool for July, with an occasional light breeze. Ivan Morton was there with his food service staff and their breakfast and lunch specials.
With 31 players and 15 courts, competition was divided into 5 classes, 4 of 6 people and one class of 7. The results were as follows:
1st place 2nd Place 3rd Place A Class Glenn Barlow Randall Weakley Kelly Campbell B Class James Porter Jerry Colyer Granville Weakley C Class Richard Owens Horace Phillips Betty Weakley D Class Danny Brooks Michael Otten Sam Kuske E Class Herman McCarthy Christopher Bowman Bobby Spencer
Glenn Barlow, Tournament Champion, was undefeated, shooting 74.27% ringers.
Most shoes thrown in the tournament, Kelly Campbell at 264 in 5 games (unlimited shoes).
Christopher Bowman, age 10, played his first sanctioned tournament as a Cadet. He qualified at 25% and shot 31.25% for the day. He finished 2nd in E Class. He won 4 lost 2.
Richmond Horseshoe Club welcomed back two members of the Campbell family, Dayton and Kelly. They now live in Virginia and plan to join us in the Singles Tournament August 29th at Stuarts Draft.
Please join us when you can. There is someone on the courts almost all the time. Bring your own corn hole bags and try out our metal corn hole boards and concrete run ways with adult and junior foul lines. It is all free.
Thank you to all who participated.
